Upper Elementary Science/Maths Teacher
Position Description
The science/math teacher is a member of the academic team. The teacher will deliver the MSB science/math curriculum to upper elementary students and will work alongside the other team members to fulfil the school’s vision for this aspect of the school’s curriculum.
Responsibilities
- To plan, resource, and deliver lessons for identified classes of pupils, in accordance with School and departmental expectations and requirements;
- Establish and maintain an appropriate classroom environment;
- Assess students at the beginning of and throughout the year and group them accordingly;
- Assist in the development and extension of the current science/maths curriculum (i.e. Grade 7 curriculum development) ;
- Design and execute termly and weekly science/maths lesson plans upon approval from the Supervisor;
- Create and adapt science/maths materials and activities to supplement the current syllabus and ultimately ensure a curriculum that encompasses best practice principles;
- Monitor and evaluate students' academic progress through up-to-date records of the students’ daily work, homework and test scores ;
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior;
- Collaborate with lead teachers to ensure a unified teaching approach and understanding of students' academic and social growth;
- Assign and mark weekly science/maths homework and follow up with students, lead teachers and/or parents if work is not being completed on time ;
- Write science/maths comments for school report cards (twice a year);
- Participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences and respond to parents' questions or concerns as they arise (this process should always be documented in students’ classroom files);
- Attend curriculum overview evenings for parents as required ;
- Take on playground and/or lunch duties as required;
- Provide support to the school community as a whole;
- Other duties, as assigned by school.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required;
- Fully qualified teacher status (licensure and credentials for accredited program);
- English Native Speaker;
- At least three years' teaching experience in science/maths;
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students and parents;
- Skills in working with a range of students of different abilities and backgrounds;
- Open-minded, enthusiastic, and demonstrates a willingness to embrace a unique, multicultural school culture;
- Must have an interest in living and working in China and at school that strongly supports and embraces Chinese language and culture;
- Excellent time management and organisational skills;
- Ability to work well in a dynamic and fast-paced environment;
- High degree of flexibility and patience;
- Sincere commitment to working collaboratively with staff and parents.
Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes a monthly housing allowance, annual air ticket allowance. Worldwide Medical Health Insurance is included, excluding USA coverage. School will sponsor a “Z” visa for successful candidates. All international and local holidays with pay.
